Fields of research:

I am leading the project Mass Atrocity Responses, which addresses topics within the fields of genocide and mass atrocity prevention, transitional justice and the political dynamics of mass atrocity crimes. This is part of the Center's work on international minority protection and mass atrocity prevention, funded by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the period 2020-2022. Currently, I am looking into the situation for the Rohingya in Myanmar within the broader framework of genocide prevention and responsibility to protect.

My research looks at severe human rights abuses against minorities. I study mechanisms for monitoring, warning and prevention of mass atrocities. Myanmar is one case study of the project, but the project also has a comparative component. In September 2018 I coordinated a two-day international conference on mass atrocity prevention, to mark the 70th anniversary of the Genocide Convention. My project will host a digital international conference in 2021. I am currently co-editing a special issue on atrocity prevention in Myanmar for the journal Global Responsibility to Protect. I am closely affiliated with the work of the Minority Network, coordinated by Ingvill Plesner at our center. I am also a member of the Politics after War research network.
