Seminar: Gacaca as a model of alternative justice
The Seminar will assess the system of community justice, Gacaca, introduced in Rwanda in 2001 with the purpose of prosecuting lesser offenders implicated in genocide. Seminar participants will discuss alternative models of justice using Gacaca as an example. The keynote address will be delivered by Dr. Phil Clark of Oxford University, the author of the recently published book, The Gacaca Courts and Post-Genocide Justice and Reconciliation in Rwanda: Justice without Lawyers.
