”Evola, Traditionalism and the modern radical right" - Mark Sedgwick
Dato: 04/10
Tid: 14:00
Konferansesalen på HL-senteret, Villa Grande
In 1942, Julius Evola lost his job as Mussolini's advisor on race, because he was too radical. Today, Evola's work has become one of the leading intellectual inspirations of the radical right. Mark Sedgwick will discuss Evola's racial theories, placing them in the context of Evola's wider "Traditionalist" philosophy. He will examine why Evola's Traditionalism has becoming so popular, showing how it benefits from influential sponsors in Russia, and how it solves some of the dilemmas of the modern radical right.
Mark Sedgwick is associate professor of history at the American University in Cairo. Educated at the universities of Oxford and Bergen, he is the author of Against the Modern World, the standard history of the Traditionalist movement. He has also published three other books on Islam and Islamic history, and many articles on subjects ranging from sectarianism to the history of terrorism.
